10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t always fun for most of us. But it should be done. As the holidays and winter come to an end and we begin looking forward to spring, something inside of us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up throughout the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of your house?
The outside of your home could probably use a little refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Fayetteville, and, even more important, will provide much-needed maintenance and care that will save you money over the years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time of year to clean out your gutters, since so many leaves and debris collected during the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest during the spring, making a huge mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t cleaned.

Plus, bugs and animals are scavenging for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help to stop an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a nice appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Home window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not cause you much of an issue, but any second and third floor windows will be trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tough chore, and it will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can clean your house, outdoor furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem silly since you’ll still be driving on it, but, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really make it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it is easy to overlook it during the winter when you aren’t doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio might be in bad shape the first time you walk onto it in the spring.

Detergent and water – and a little hard work – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you need to consider a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are typical roof issues in Fayetteville. While you are cleaning the outside of your home, it is a great time to clean your roof as well, but you’ll need to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you start to see streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.

The ideal process for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and then let it be. This mixture will eliminate all organic organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Spruce up the Front

The front of your home is what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will probably encourage you to spend more time outdoors.

Clean your porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and consider painting it for a really fresh look! Clean unnoticed areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You’ll probably be spending much more time outside, so spring is an excellent chance to organize whatever you’ll need for outdoor chores.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have an exact place outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the outside of your home much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a major impact on the overall look of your home.

Kill weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you might be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.

Wet it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.
